Inside Look

1 | 2 | 3 | 4

I love seeing artist journal pages. I think it's really awesome when a story can be told in little doodles instead of lengthy paragraphs. Definitely more my style.

On a completely different note Jackson's skin is still in bad shape. It was doing really good and then yesterday while he was home alone he got his cone off and reversed all his progress. I'm a sad mama today. I feel like no matter how much we try to help him and take care of him he's making things harder for himself. It's just really frustrating- it's my job to make sure he's happy and healthy but I feel like it's something I can't always control despite my best efforts. It just stinks. If you can send good vibes his way or maybe slip him into your prayers I would be so grateful. I just can't stand to see my little guy in pain anymore.

With all this not so fun talk about Jackson I figured it was only fair to share some fun stuff, and what are more fun than a few super cute puppy pictures?

The day we got the little fur ball
First camping trip!
His first unlikely friendship.
See you tomorrow guys! I promise once the pup is all better I'll be back to my old blogging self ♥

Friday Favorites: Black & White

I'm trying out a new little feature on my blog. Friday Favorites. I just figure I love it when other blogs do similar features and this way I get to share things with you guys that I think are really really cool. We'll see how it goes, let me know what you think!

I want to put these two outfits above together into one and wear it every single day. Is that a bad thing?

I have always been a big (HUGE) fan of color, and still am, but lately there is something about black and white that makes me swoon. Together they are so classy and sophisticated but also have this rock and roll edge that is so lovely. All things black and white get it my life!

On another note, we're putting up A Girl In Sunset (Lisa Maurine's amazing blog that I did the new design for) later today so I'll most likely be back here sharing with you guys! Catch ya later skaters.

{also I apologize for the useless links on some of these guys, I sourced back to the addresses they came from but a lot came from tumblrs and weren't sourced correctly}

A little DIY

As you may remember, I'm working on finding pieces for our new home to make it feel like our own, in particular our bedroom. I've been making some new art pieces to go in there (don't you get sick of looking at the same stuff on your walls for years too?) and I've been exploring online for new fun ideas. I stumbled across these beautiful giant cross stitches by Jessica Decker. SO AMAZING right? I'm feeling very motivated to take a stab at making one of my own, wish me luck!

A piece I just made that I'm excited to share with you is this little guy

I found some really pretty paper the other day with a bunch of vintage steel pens on it and bought it on a whim because I figured I could do something with it. A piece of wood, some puzzle skills, and a little modge podge later here we are. It's really simple but I think it has a subtle romance to it which I really enjoy.

Hope you all are having a fantastic weekend!

Spreading the love

original photo by Dee Adams
Hey guys! With all this talk on other blogs about March sponsorships I just wanted to take a second to let you know that Woodgrain & Gold does sponsor swapping! Your button on my blog, mine on yours, how awesome is that? It was introduced to me by the lovely Alyssa over at Ten Feet Off Beale (who I currently sponsor swap with) and I think it's a great way for us smaller blogs to grow. If you have any questions or are interested go ahead and email me at woodgrainandgold@gmail.com!

Something Old. Something New.

That's some gnarly thriftage, brah!
I ended up having some time to kill before class the other night, which in Portland is pretty awesome because it's rather small and there are so many fantastic things in walking distance. I walked around for about an hour doing some leisurely thrifting and found some pretty sweet stuff. I use to work at Nordstrom and developed a pretty ridiculous shopping habit (having a discount changes things guys) but now that I have bills to pay, and all that good stuff, shopping trips are something sacred. I very rarely buy anything full price anymore, first of all because I can't afford to, and secondly finding things on sale or in thrift stores seems like more of an accomplishment to me now. I know it's silly, leave me alone. Anyway I got all this for $36! Which officially made me broke but it was worth it. 100%. I've secretly wanted a Pendleton bag for a couple years now but kept the want deeply buried because I could never justify how ridiculously expensive it is. This little guy was gently used, the perfect size, and only $17 (which is officially $41 off).

Also, as promised, here is one of a few craft ideas I'm posting to get everyone excited for Valentines Day! Handmade gifts always seem a little more special to me. Plus they're fun and inexpensive which are both major bonuses.

A) First, collect your supplies. For this I used a circle paper cutter, white card stock, fresh no. 2 pencils, and a variety of different colored ink pads.
B) Next cut out your cards. I think hand cut hearts would be a really cute alternative!
C) Do some stamp testing to see what you like. Using the eraser end of the pencil, get some ink. I would dip (I don't know what other word to use for that) my eraser after every two or three stamps
D) Come up with your own unique designs!

We're pretty crafty kids so I just picked a couple things that we already had. To save some cash I suggest modifying to what you already have too (you don't need to go out and buy a paper cutter). Ink pads can get kind of spendy if you buy a bunch at once, but they've turned out to be a pretty good investment. They're also sold with a couple colors in one pad like this, which is what I would recommend if you have the urge to buy ink pads for this specifically. You could also just use markers to get color on the bottom of the erasers, or even paint. They really do turn out great and are really quick to make! Good luck!
